Avatar Film

Brainstorm:  The two were Talking She told him to go away because he didn't belong

- the seeds of the sacred tree chose him

Techniques: Lighting - Artificial, Bright + Dim - plants/things they touched were bright, the background was dim, cold.

                            Colour - Palette - neon - Blue/green/purple

                            - Extremes, shows us we are someplace different, exciting

Music

Camera - shots - angles - movement - focus

: Tilt shot used to show the seeds POV shot of Jake, exciting/magical

: Conversation - mid-shot, show bodies, shows the distance between the characters

: Close up - on seeds, shows ethereal movement, otherworldly.

_____________________

Statement: In the scene 'Seeds of the sacred tree' Lighting is effectively used to create the otherworldly experience of Pandora.

Evidence: Artificial bright light is seen as the figures run and touch things in the environment. The rest of their surroundings remain dark against these flashes of cold neon light.

X - Audience: This makes the audience feel amazed and envious of the natural and unearthly qualities of the planet.

X - Director: The director did this to make the viewer feel like they have been transported to another world where new and exciting are possible.

X - Techniques: Coinciding with this is the use of a neon color palette. The blues, greens, and purples become vibrant and otherworldly when combined with the artificial bright lights caused by movement.

Y - Your Link: The lighting and color are juxtaposed to that which we experience in the real world. Like earth, it has trees, plants, and native people but they have seen vastly different from us because of the bright artificial neon lighting and colors

Brainstorm: Freedom Writers

Tolerance means the ability to put up with others' beliefs, attitudes & cultures, even when you don't agree / its different from your own.

Overcoming Adversity - pushing through something difficult or dangerous.

Brainstorm: A student read his diary to the teacher + class

    - His family was evicted - He feels at home at school in Ms. Gruwell's class + Overcoming diversity: he has come to school despite being evicted.

- Music: Soft, Slow

- Lighting: Bright, Natural, creates an atmosphere of warmth, happiness, Welcome space

- Camera: Close up, when he says he's home - shows the audience his emotion

    - Dolly shot - from close-up to mid then back to close up. Shows the viewer that the student is surrounded, supported by his classroom family

                - Shallow Focus - Speaker is sharp, those around him are blurred to make him the focus, most important.

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Brainstorm: Miep Gies came to talk to the classroom about hiding Anne Frank + her family. Marcus stands and tells her that she's his hero. Miep says that they're the heroes.

Camera Shot/angle/movement/focus:  Pan Shot - Used to show all the students are there and they are all focused + listening-not distracted like previous scenes. Tracking mid-shot: Marcus when he speaks

Lighting: Bright, Cold, Natural. = Back lit-creates a halo effect making her seem angelic or god-like. This works because the students see Miep like a god because she saved the franks.

Music:  Subtle quiet, builds into volume + intensity, used to heighten the viewer's emotions.

English

This week in English we have been doing creative writing and learnt different ways of creating a piece of writing, like -
Using a simile, Metaphor, Personification, Assonance, Alliteration, Onomatopoeia,Idiom and Hyperbole.  Here a start on my first piece of writing. Its just a start, but I think I did pretty well :D

(As I was laying on my bed I could feel my eyelids closing and the blackness starting to take over and out of nowhere it was pitch black so I Stood up and walked over to turn on my light but couldn't find the switch so I looked for my lamp that was meant to be next to my bed but couldn't’ find that either. Then I tried to feel around to find my bed but I couldn't feel anything, so I tried the dumbest thing ever, I picked a direction and ran as fast as I could. There was nothing at all, so I started freaking out. It was quiet, I was alone and scared, of where I was and who was watching. So I did the thing that everyone would do, I screamed and screamed and screamed but nothing came out, only the sound of my breath.)

Hunt For The Wilder People (HFTWP)

In English we are learning about three different film techniques using the film Hunt For The Wilder People directed by Taika Waititi. The three film techniques that i'm looking for in the relationship between Kahu and Ricky is Dialogue, Acting/Facials and Music. I really like the contrast between Kahu and Ricky because dialogue, acting and music is used energetically throughout the scene.
