Acid Rain

Acid Rain

How it forms-
When fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas are burned, oxides of carbon, sulphur and nitrogen escape into the air. These molecules dissolve in the water in the clouds and make rain water more acidic than normal. When this happens, "Its called acid rain".

Experiment-
universal indicator - makes things change colour. ( yellow to red)
Bromothynol blue - changes colour. (blue to green/yellow)
flower -  went hard
calcium carbonate - went crusty.
apple - went hard.
we set up all our thing in a petre dish and set up a little way boat in the middle and we put the lid on and waited to see what the acids could do to the ingredients, they changed colour.

Gymnastic

For the past week my class and I have been taking part in a gymnastics session. The first day we had to see what skills we had at each obstacle course. There are 5 courses and at each one we had to take a video of what tricks or skills we had. This is a video showing what trick I can do on the mini trampoline.(Aerial)

Oesophagus
 What is it used for?
The oesophagus is a tube that connects the throat and the stomach.
Where do you find it?
Throat
How does it work?
As a person swallows, food moves from the mouth to the throat
Weird Examples - A Giraffe has a very long oesophagus

Small Intestine
What is it used for? For all your food to come to form into a poo.
Where do you find it? The bottom of your stomach.
How does it work? The small intestine, or small bowelis a hollow tube about 20 feet long that runs from the stomach to the beginning of the large intestineThe small intestine breaks down food from the stomach and absorbs much of the nutrients from the food.

large Intestine

What is it used for? The major function of the large intestine is to absorb water from the remaining indigestible food matter and transmit the useless waste material from the body.
Where do you find it? Around the small intestine .
How does it work? Its job is to absorb most of the nutrients from what we eat and drink. Velvety tissue lines the small intestine, which is divided into the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum. The large intestine (colon or large bowelis about 5 feet long and about 3 inches in diameter.

Liver
What is it used for? The liver's main job is to filter the blood coming from the digestive tract, before passing it to the rest of the body.
Where do you find it? Above your stomach and inside of you.
How does it work? The liver's main job is to filter the blood coming from the digestive tract, before passing it to the rest of the body.

Stomach
What is it used for? It helps digest nicely
Where do you find it? Its attached to the oesophagus (Bottom)
How does it work? It digest food or stores it

Hunt For The Wilder People (HFTWP)

In English we are learning about three different film techniques using the film Hunt For The Wilder People directed by Taika Waititi. The three film techniques that i'm looking for in the relationship between Kahu and Ricky is Dialogue, Acting/Facials and Music. I really like the contrast between Kahu and Ricky because dialogue, acting and music is used energetically throughout the scene.

Human Rights Seel Paragraph

Human Rights
Seel Paragraph

Human rights include civil and political rights such as the right to life and liberty, freedom of expression, equality before the law and the right to be free from discrimination.
This means they have a right which is believed to belong to every person.
For example  Harassment – inappropriate jokes, insults, name-calling is not a good way for freedom and expression.
By not being allowed to do all those things, people are still allowed to be protected by the law/rights.

Art Work
Question 1 = What are concepts what are developments? Why is this important for developing art work?
Answer 1 = Development is putting more design and style into your work. Concepts are an abstract idea so a plan/drafts.
Developments is important because is good to improve your work by doing all concepts. So improving your work to be the best standard.

Question 2 = How have you used the colour theory in your work?
Answer 2 = I have used colour theory in my work by choosing out warm and cold colours

Question 3 = Describe the process of you painting
Answer 3 = We first had to plan our warm and cold colours then we had to do our undercoat and then we started to paint then we started to put texture and style to my work by doing a total range of light red to dark red

Cooking With Ma Aurora

Investigating State Changes

Aim: To observe water as it changes state from solid to liquid and then to a gas

Method:
1. collect enough ice so that your beaker is half full and place the thermometer into it while you set up the
 rest of the equipment.

2. Set up the retort stand and clamp alongside the tripod and gauze mat.

3. place the beaker of ice on the gauze mat and gently clamp the thermometer so that it is held upright
and the scale is easy to see.
The bottom of your thermometer should be low enough to still be covered by water when the ice melts,
but not touching the bottom of the beaker.

4. record the initial thermometer of the ice in the data table below.

5. Light the Bunsen burner and start timing with the stopwatch.

6. measure and record the thermometer every minute.

7.continue measuring and recording the thermometer until the water has been boiling for 2-3 minutes.

Making a dilution series

Aim: To make a dilution series to investigate the concentration
Equipment: A potassium permanganate crystal, six large test tubes, tweezers, a plastic transfer pipette, a test tube rack, 10ml measuring cylinder
Method:
1. Place the six test tubes in a test rack. Label the rack with numbers 1-6
2.  Using the measuring cylinder, fill the test tube 1 with 10 ml of water. Fill the remaining test tubes with 5ml of water
3. Using your tweezers, add a single crystal of potassium permanganate to test tube 1
4. Gently shake the test tube until the crystal has dissolved
5. Using the transfer pipette, carefully remove exactly 5ml from the test tube 1 and pour in into test tube 2
6. Rinse the transfer pipette again and repeat the transfer process for test tube 4, 5 and 6
Discussion:  We put a tiny bit of solute into solvent to make a solution and to make a dilution series.

Chromatography Science Experiment

Aim: To separate the different pigments in ink or dyes using paper chromatography

Method: 1. Cut a strip of filter paper that is long enough to reach the bottom of your beaker.
2. Fill your beaker with enough chromatography solution to fill you beaker to a depth of 10cm
3. Place a dot of ink above the ruled line on your paper. you need to produce a concentrated dot of ink so repeated applications may be necessary.
4. Wait to see what happens. It is important that you do not disturb the beaker. If the solution come in contact with the ink dot, the ink will run down into the solution rather than move up the filter paper

Results: They turned out very well some of mine failed because the ink got into the solution and different colours I tried out did not do as well as other colours.

Discussion: When the solute is to low and the solvent is to high  it wont work. The water will soaked the paper an it wont turn out the way you want it to.

If the solute and solvent / solution work well you could try different colours different patterns eg

Science Experiment (Crystals)

19 March 2019
Aim: To separate a solute from a solvent in a solution using evaporating
Method:
1. Set up the Bunsen burner, tripod and gauze mat. Dont place the Bunsen burner under the tripod yet.
2. Add approximately 50ml of hot water to your beaker and place it on top of the tripod, on the gauze mat.
3. Add enough copper sulfate solution to quarter fill the evaporating basin.
4. Carefully place the evaporating basin on top of the beaker.
5. Light you Bunsen burner.Open the air hole and gently push the Bunsen burner under the tripod.
6.Heat the solution until most of the solvent has been evaporated and crystals of solute are forming
7. Turn off your Bunsen burner

Monday, 18 March 2019

Distillation Experiment

Aim: To separate a solute from a solvent in a solution using distillation
Method
1. Set the equipment shown in the diagram
2.  Add approximately 50ml of salt water to your conical flask
3. Light your Bunsen Burner. Open the air hole and gently push the Bunsen burner under then tripod
4. Heat the solution until most of the solvent ha been evaporate.Turn  off the Bunsen burner.
=  We were using coca cola instead of salt water.

Discussion: The coca cola is mixed with salt and water which is a solution, Then we would heat that up, then the gas will go down the delivery tube into the beaker with ice then it will condense = (The gas going back to liquid.)
(This is all a distillation)

Home Economics

20 February 2019
Lately we have been doing Home Economics, we have preparing by going through health and safety.
Image result for the word food
Last Monday I made chicken stir fry with my group Madi, Aroha and myself.
The first thing we had to do was prep.
We used Carrots, Peas, corn, broccoli, beans and cabbage
First we cut the chicken.
Then we sliced and diced our vegetables and put them together
Then we put together our sauce that we were going to use for our chicken, we put together soy sauce and honey then added some salt and pepper. We have done prepping so we started to heat up the frying pan, when that was done Madi put the chicken in till it was nearly done. So we started adding the vegetables one by one.
When there was 2 minutes for the chicken and vegetables to be cooked we added our sauce. while Aroha and Madi were doing the finishing touches I started to get out our bowls and test it.
Our meal turned out very good we should have used least soy sauce and more honey because it tasted very strong but it looked good smelt good but not so much taste good

Te Whare Tapa Wha

20 February 2019

Te Whare TapaWha

Te Whare TapaWha is about a four wall house of hauora which is representing four basic beliefs of TAHA WAIRUA, TAHA HINENGARO,TAHA TINANA. and TAHA WHANAU.

Taha wairua means Spiritual Wellbeing

Taha Hinengaro means Emotional and Mental Wellbeing
Taha Tinana means Physical Wellbeing
Taha Whanau means Social Wellbeing

I contributed with my group by giving ideas, putting up all 4 walls, writing down all meanings of the 4 walls.Next time I will make sure everyone is involved by doing there work.
It was challenging when we all didn't have an idea towards our whare.
I coped with the challenge by working together putting ideas out.
I worked well with others because its better with 4 brains than 1.

Science Experiment

Aim
Measuring the tennis ball by different heights you drop it from

Hypothesis
The higher you drop the ball the higher it will bounce

Method
Someones going to hold the ruler as another person is going to drop the tennis ball from different heights as recording the measurement also repeating it 3 times each height

Results
1m - 32, 19, 21
2m - 34, 29, 27
3m - 41, 39, 37
54cm - 21, 24, 26

Discussion
When we dropped it at 1 metre the bounce back was 32cm when we dropped it at 2 metre the bounce back was 34cm.
When we dropped it at 3 metre the bounce back was 41cm
The we dropped it at 54 cm then came back to 26cm

Conclusion
Our aim was
(Measuring the tennis ball by different heights you drop it from)
These results came back to my hypothesis
(The higher you drop the ball the higher it will bounce)

What I Read About

Book: Billionaire Boy
Author: David Williams

7 February 2019
I have now read 80 pages of 'Billionaire Boy' written by David Williams its about a boy named Joe that has been bullied at his previous posh school for being super rich/Fat.
Joe convinced his dad to go to a normal school with normal kids. He made a new friend called Bob. Joe didn't tell Bob about him being rich because he was scared that he would make fun of him because he got rich by his dad selling toilet rolls. But then Bob found out but he said he will keep Joe's secret to himself.
_____________________________________________________________________________

8 February 2019
I have now read to Page 93....
Joe and Bob were spotted by the twins (Grubbs) they ran down a alley hid behind a garbage bin. Where the grubbs had stolen the cadburys dairy milk chocolate bar snatched out of Bob's hands. Then the grubbs threw Bob in the bin where spaghetti and Parmesan cheese ended up in his curly hair that Joe had to pick out himself. The next day at school the 2 grubb twins came walking over slowly, through the football game that no one dared to complain, so  the boys ran into the dinning room. The cooking lady Mrs Trafe said to the twins 'If you aren't eating then get out either Dave or Sue said   'but Mrs trafe...?' ............ ''I SAID OUT!''
(The grubb twins are identical twins but  Dave is a boy and Sue is a girl)
