What is acid rain?
Acid rain is harmful in many ways for the environment. Acid rain can dissolve stuff like houses, buildings etc. Why does acid rain matter? It matters because it will do a lot of damage to this environment. If acid rain gets into the ocean many fish and sea creatures will die also lakes, streams.... How does acid rain form? Acid rain is caused by chemical reactions that begins when compounds like sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are released into the air.
Acid Rain Experiment:
Method:
1. Set up the Petri dish
* Add a few drops of water to these
2. Add 1 spatula of sodium sulfide to weigh boat
* Take Starting Photo
3. Add 5 drops of sulfuric acid and quickly put lid on
4. Watch and take photos
In these photos it shows the petri dish holding 7 different ingredients for this experiment. The Blue Litmus paper went from blue to red because there acid in the air.. in the petri dish. The Universal indicator was originally green but its now red. I'm pretty sure that Bromothymol Blue is meant to change to yellow but it stay blue :D The apple is acidic and the apple skin will slowly loose its color also the leaf should loose its color too. :O The Powder (Calcium Carbonate) Will slowly die off :O. The air in the petri dish becomes acidic because the Sodium Sulfide and Sulfuric acid will start producing more acid in the air.
Well done Kyra-Lee! You explain well what you saw and why it happened :)
